Trump Floats $2,000 “Dividend” for Most Americans, Tied to Tariff Revenue

Nov. 9 — Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump said Sunday that his administration plans to issue a “dividend” of at least $2,000 to most Americans, framing the potential payout as a reward for what he described as the nation’s economic success under his leadership.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said the payments would go to all Americans except those with higher incomes, but did not specify how or when the funds would be distributed.

“We are taking in trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying down our enormous debt,” Trump wrote. “A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

Trump linked the proposal to his administration’s tariff policies, calling critics of tariffs “fools” and asserting that the United States is now “the richest, most respected country in the world” with record investment, strong stock markets, and low inflation.

If implemented, the payments would mark the first round of direct cash aid to Americans since the pandemic-era stimulus checks, which were issued under both Trump and President Joe Biden between 2020 and 2021. Those payments ranged from $600 to $1,400 per person and were aimed at supporting the economy during the COVID-19 crisis.

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California also recently called for new stimulus checks. In an October post on X (formerly Twitter), Khanna proposed a $2,000 payment for families earning under $100,000 a year to help offset rising living costs.

Earlier in 2025, there were also discussions of a potential “DOGE dividend,” a separate proposal reportedly tied to budget reallocations within the administration. However, that idea — like other cash payment proposals — was never formally approved by Congress, and no further progress has been reported.
