G20 finance ministers and central bank governors have agreed to work toward clearer rules for digital assets, saying they can support economic growth and financial innovation.

In a statement following a two-day meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, G20 officials said they want regulatory frameworks that protect financial stability while allowing responsible innovation in digital finance and crypto.

The officials also said they are looking forward to new findings from the Financial Stability Board on the cross-border impact of global stablecoins, including data availability and regulatory challenges.

The G20 also reaffirmed its plan to improve cross-border payments and called on member countries to extend the operating hours of large-value payment systems.

Several major G20 economies, including the U.S., EU and Japan, have already introduced rules for digital assets and stablecoins as governments explore their potential to make financial and payment systems faster and more accessible.
