The cryptocurrency industry has openly criticized the Biden administration’s regulatory stance on digital assets. In response, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has signaled a more supportive approach to crypto.

Brian Nelson, Senior Policy Advisor for Harris, confirmed Wednesday that Harris plans to back policies aimed at fostering the growth of emerging technologies and industries, including cryptocurrency. Nelson made the remarks during a Bloomberg roundtable at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The rising influence of the crypto sector is becoming a notable theme in the 2024 presidential race. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Republican frontrunner Donald Trump have both pledged to adopt more favorable regulatory frameworks if elected.

In contrast, the Biden administration’s regulatory approach has been viewed as overly restrictive by many in the crypto industry. Nelson acknowledged that while Harris is committed to supporting industry growth, her administration would still prioritize implementing necessary safeguards to prevent future collapses in the sector.
