Fiserv launches stablecoin platform with first live banking use case

Fiserv has launched its Digital Asset Platform with financial institution clients, bringing stablecoin-powered banking and payments into live production. The first use case is Roughrider Coin, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin created for Bank of North Dakota and its network of more than 90 banks and credit unions.

Roughrider Coin is designed to make bank-to-bank payments across North Dakota faster and more efficient. The stablecoin is issued by VersaBank, with Fireblocks providing digital asset infrastructure and tokenization services, while transactions are processed on the Solana blockchain. Banks can access the system through Fiserv’s existing commercial banking platform, meaning they can use the new infrastructure alongside their traditional banking services.

Fiserv plans to expand the platform beyond interbank payments. It is designed to support stablecoin-powered cards, cross-border payments, programmable payments, treasury automation, tokenized deposits and global U.S. dollar accounts.

The launch is notable because it moves stablecoins beyond crypto exchanges and pilot programs into the existing banking system. With Fiserv providing technology to financial institutions at scale, the platform could become another important bridge between traditional banking and blockchain-based payments.
